I posted this on SailorMoonForum.com (and again on SilverMillenniumFalcon.com) during a discussion on how one can legally convert their SM DiC dub tapes to digital (rather than buying bootlegs or torrenting), and thought it would be great to post it again on Proboards SMF too. A great way to convert tapes into digital is to use Hauppauge's HVR-1955 with WinTV v8.5 (both sold separately): * HVR-1955* WinTVThe WinTV software produces TS files with the option to convert to an MPG file. If you want an actual video DVD for your TV with menus, things get more complicated. There is also no loss in quality that you would get from dubbing a tape, as you play your VCR into the device as if it were a TV. But if you haven't used your VCR in years, you might be surprised to see what awful shape your tapes are in and give up on some of them. NOTE: After emailing the company early July 2018 regarding the HVR-1955, they told me that it (and its predecessor, the HVR-1950) are no longer in production. (WinTV still is, as it is used for their other products.) So if you need to, buy them soon!
